‘When in doubt choose black’

So yes, I’m back in my favorite colorBlack. You know, I’ve always said black is not just a color; it’s a statement, a mood, a whole persona. Black, the timeless and revered color, has an unparalleled position in the world of fashion. It is a color that exudes elegance and sophistication while yet speaking boldly of rebellion and mystery.

Chanel was spot on when she said that, “Every woman should own at least one little black dress.” But I say, here in Pakistan, every woman should own a little black tunic, a little black top, a little black kurta, anything that reflects her taste. Whatever it is, be it a black kurta, tunic or top, make sure it's impeccably stitched, meticulously crafted, and cut to perfection. Because that one black article will be your go-to for any occasion, formal or not.

Black's versatility comes from its simplicity. You can wear a black tunic with trousers, a chunri dupatta for a traditional look or you can style it with jeans or a skirt to get that modern look. It could be styled in anyway but make sure that it has the best fabric and tailored perfectly. The best part is that it will never be out of style. I was looking through some of Chanel’s quotes and it struck me hard when she said, “Scheherezade is easy; a little black dress is difficult.” And, I agree with her. Scheherezade is your traditional embroidery that can easily be found to purchase but a black dress? Now that’s an art which is difficult to find.

Of course, for someone like me, black is a wardrobe staple — I own more black dresses than I can count, and I love every one of them. To me, black is the brightest color on the spectrum. I know there's some debate about it but think about it: black looks great on almost everyone, regardless of their skin tone, height, or hair color.

My favoritism for black can be seen in the articles I design at Gulabo. There’s got to be black in every category be it formal or casual. When in doubt, grab that black tunic, kurta, or little black dress. Trust me, it's always the best choice!
